Best Spray Tan in Temecula | Spray Tan Prep & Aftercare Guide

Here are the questions we get asked most often:

When should I exfoliate before my spray tan?

24 hours before your appointment:

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells so your spray tan develops evenly and fades naturally.

For best results, we recommend:

  • A Japanese exfoliating towel

  • Eufora Aloetherapy Enzyme Body Scrub

  • Or any oil-free exfoliating scrub

Avoid exfoliating immediately before your appointment, as your skin can become irritated and more prone to uneven absorption.

best way to prepare for a spray tan

Should I shave or wax before my spray tan?

Yes—but timing matters.

Shaving: At least 12 hours before your appointment.

Waxing: Ideally 18–24 hours before.

This gives your pores time to close and prevents the solution from settling into freshly opened follicles.

Avoid shaving after your spray tan, as it can shorten the life of your color.

Can I wear lotion before my spray tan?

No.

Please arrive with completely clean, bare skin.

Do not wear:

  • Lotion

  • Body oil

  • Sunscreen

  • Perfume

  • Deodorant

  • Makeup

Even products you applied earlier in the day can create a barrier that prevents the tanning solution from developing evenly.

Should I shower before my appointment?

Absolutely, but anytime In the last 24 hours will do.

Take your shower NO LATER THAN ONE HOUR before arriving, and finish all of your skin prep first.

Once you're clean:

  • Do not apply moisturizer

  • Do not apply deodorant

  • Do not apply makeup

  • Do not apply perfume

Your skin should be completely clean and dry.

Do I have to be completely nude?

Not at all.

Your comfort always comes first.

Many clients choose to tan:

  • Nude

  • In dark underwear

  • In a dark bikini

  • Wearing disposable garments (can be provided on request)

Are Your Spray Tan Artists Certified?

best spray tan in temecula

Absolutely.

Every spray tan artist at Artisan Parlor has completed multiple professional spray tan certifications and receives continued education on spray tanning techniques, color customization, skin preparation, and aftercare.

Spray tanning is both a science and an art. Proper application, body positioning, skin analysis, and product knowledge all play a major role in creating beautiful, natural-looking results.

Our goal is for people to compliment you—not notice your spray tan.

How Long Does a Spray Tan Last?

Most professional spray tans last 7–10 days, although some guests enjoy beautiful results for up to two weeks.

How long your tan lasts depends on several factors:

  • Your skin's natural exfoliation rate

  • How well you prepared beforehand

  • Daily moisturizing

  • Exercise frequency

  • Swimming or hot tubs

  • Long, hot showers

  • Shaving frequency

  • Products used on your skin

Everyone's skin is different, so fading will naturally vary from person to person.

How Can I Make My Spray Tan Last Longer?

Want to enjoy your glow for as long as possible?

Follow these simple tips:

DO:

✔ Moisturize every day

✔ Drink plenty of water to keep skin hydrated

✔ Take shorter, lukewarm showers

✔ Pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing

✔ Use gentle, sulfate-free body wash

✔ Wear sunscreen outdoors (your spray tan does not provide UV protection)

✔ Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine whenever possible

Healthy, hydrated skin helps your tan fade gradually and evenly.

What Makes a Spray Tan Fade Faster?

Several everyday habits can shorten the life of your tan.

Try to avoid:

  • Long, hot showers

  • Hot tubs

  • Swimming pools

  • Ocean salt water

  • Heavy sweating immediately after your appointment

  • Harsh soaps

  • Oil-based body products

  • Scrubbing your skin

  • Chemical exfoliants

  • Picking or scratching peeling skin

Your spray tan only colors the outermost layer of skin. As your skin naturally exfoliates, your tan fades along with it.

How Do I Remove a Spray Tan?

Whether you're preparing for a fresh application or simply ready for your glow to fade, gentle exfoliation is the safest way to remove a spray tan.

At Artisan Parlor, we recommend using our professional X Sunless Tan Remover together with a Japanese exfoliating towel.

This combination helps:

  • Soften remaining color

  • Lift old tanning residue

  • Remove uneven patches

  • Prepare your skin for your next flawless spray tan

Many guests use this combination the day before their next appointment for the smoothest, most even results.

What Should I Avoid When Removing a Spray Tan?

Please don't try to "scrub it off" aggressively.

Please reach out to your spray tan artist If you are looking to remove your spray tan faster, wether to prepare for your next tan or get quicker fading results. We offer a take home solution that can help safely speed up the removal of the tan.

Avoid:

  • Metal exfoliating tools

  • Pumice stones

  • Steel wool (yes...people actually ask!)

  • Harsh chemical cleaners

  • Bleach

  • Acetone

  • Excessively rough scrubbing

  • Picking peeling skin

Over-exfoliating can irritate your skin, create redness, and actually make your next spray tan develop unevenly.

Gentle, consistent exfoliation is always the better approach.

When Should I Remove My Old Spray Tan Before My Next Appointment?

For the best results, remove as much of your previous spray tan as possible 12 - 24 hours before your next appointment.

Fresh, smooth skin allows your new spray tan to develop evenly without layering over old color.

If you have stubborn areas that won't come off completely, don't worry—our artists can usually work with them and recommend the best approach during your appointment.

Can I Get a Spray Tan After Getting a Tattoo?

Yes—but you should wait until your tattoo is completely healed before receiving a spray tan.

A fresh tattoo is considered an open wound. Tiny or micro tattoos may heal faster than larger area pieces, this is for you and your spray tan artist to decide together.

Applying spray tan solution over healing skin can:

  • Irritate the tattoo

  • Interfere with the healing process

  • Lead to uneven color development

  • Increase the risk of infection if the skin hasn't fully closed

Most tattoo artists recommend waiting 2–4 weeks, depending on the size of your tattoo and how quickly your skin heals. Always follow your tattoo artist's aftercare instructions, as healing times vary from person to person.

Once your tattoo has fully healed, spray tanning is completely safe and won't damage your ink. In fact, many clients love how a healthy bronze glow can make their tattoos appear even more vibrant and defined.

Can I Get a Tattoo Right After a Spray Tan?

It's best to avoid getting tattooed immediately after a spray tan.

During the tattoo process, your artist will thoroughly cleanse and shave the skin, removing your spray tan in that area. In addition, tattoo artists need to see your natural skin tone to accurately place and evaluate the tattoo while they work.

If you're planning both services, we recommend scheduling your tattoo first, allowing it to heal completely, and then booking your spray tan afterward. If you get a tattoo while wearing a tan, just remember that additional wiping will remove excess skin cells around the area and may cause uneven fading.

Will a Spray Tan Cover My Tattoos?

No.

Professional spray tanning solutions are transparent enough that your tattoos will remain fully visible. Instead of covering your artwork, a natural-looking spray tan often enhances the contrast between your skin and your tattoo, making the colors and line work stand out even more.

Can I Spray Tan Over a New Tattoo That Is Peeling?

No.

Even if your tattoo is only lightly peeling, it is still healing. Wait until:

  • All peeling has finished

  • The skin is smooth

  • There are no scabs or flaking areas

  • Your tattoo artist confirms it has fully healed

Waiting just a little longer helps protect both your skin and your investment in your new tattoo.
